Search with double-click You will only need to double click on the word to start Alexandria
(Source of the sample: Financial Times, 23/02/2005) In the example above, the user has made a double-click on the word sights. Following this query, Alex has displayed a suite of synonyms and associated expressions in which this word can be found Now let's double click on the word sights. If your browser's default language is English, you will also obtain synonyms, definitions and associated expressions. However if your browser's default language is Spanish, you will get as default action, a translation of the word in Spanish, followed by a list of expressions containing the word sights. It is very easy to change this default feature.
Changing the target language Whatever the place where you are or the website on which you use Alexandria, it will always be possible to change the target language. You will only have to make use of the Alexandria toolbar. To display this toolbar, click on the double arrow on the top right of the Alexandria window blue title bar. Choose the desired target language, German, for example. Then close the Alexandria window to load the new parameters Double click on the word again. Below is an example of what you will get:
(Source of the sample: Financial Times, 23/02/2005) In the previous example, you had chosen Spanish as a target language. Word search in Alexandria window It is always possible to carry on word search inside the Alexandria window just as you had previously done on a website that has installed Alexandria. Search for compounds with a double-click Most of the words that are part of a compound word are indexed in Alexandria. A very simple way of processing a search on a compound word is then to double click on one of its components. Ex.: love at first sight. After double-clicking on sights following the list of definitions and synonyms, you will find an alphabetical list of expressions using the word sight. In the list, you will quickly find mother-in-law.
Searching compounds with manual mouse selection You will be able to highlight the compound you want to search with a mouse selection. Once you have selected the desired expression simply press the RETURN key to launch the query. For example, now, select the word love at first sight and press the RETURN key
Make a mouse selection of the words included in the link and press the RETURN key Following this action Alexandria will display a window saying : no results for: followed by the list of selected word. To carry on with your search now, simply click on the word you want to search in the Alexandria window.
Using Alexandria on a Macintosh At the present time Alexandria still does not work on some Macintosh work stations. We are working on solving this problem.
Using Alexandria on the classics SVG library of our website Here the double click will not work. You will need to make a mouse selection of the word you want to query and launch Alexandria with a right click.
